Q: QuestionPlease explain the reset filter button. Is this to press after cleaning and reinstalling the 2 metal filters on the bottom or is there another filter somewhere?

This feature will typically light up to alert the owner that it's time to clean the grease filter or replace the charcoal filter. After replacing or cleaning the filter hold this button for 3 seconds. Q: QuestionJust installed JVM6175SKSS. The microwave is heating/working, but is really loud/screeching. Sounds similar to our 13 year old GE over the range microwave when it stopped heating. Is this loud sound expected, or there is something wrong with it?

• A:Answer We put same model in less than a month ago. Do not have loud screeching. If it sounds loud, then there is probably something wrong. Who installed? The flap on the exhaust vent may not be opening if it was not installed correctly. I can imagine that would make some noise.

Q: QuestionI often go into my dimly lite kitchen at night to use my microwave. I can’t see anything on the display panel except the clock. I have to turn the full kitchen light on to see what I’m doing. Is there a way to light the panel? Fumbling in the dark.

While our microwave display panels are not backlit and do not illuminate, our over-the-range microwaves do have a cooktop light underneath that can be turned on. Press the Surface Light on your control panel to turn the surface light on or off. • A:Answer Our upper cabinets are 14 inches tall and, with the microwave installed, we still have 15 and 1/2 inches between the bottom of the microwave and the stove. The brackets are attached to the cabinets above--not the back wall. A 2 and 1/2 inch hole was cut into the bottom of one of the cabinets so that the microwave could be plugged into an outliet that is inside the cabinet, on the backwall (a hole was cut out of the cabinet to get to the outlet).

This makes choosing a replacement a breeze. Please note however, that you will need to use the mounting kit that comes with the model. This is because the kit is made specifically for that model. You can search for the following to see if any of these microwaves strike your fancy: PVM9179SKSS, JVM6175YKFS, JVM6172SKSS, and JVM6175SKSS. Since you have a 36" opening, a filler kit would be needed to help properly install these new units. All three of these units use the following filler kit: JX36BSS. We hope that this helps! Q: QuestionI have a 4-year-old OTR microwave, model # JVM6172SK1SS that failed. I recently bought a JVM6172SKSS. I went to install it and nothing lines up for the cabinet hole pattern. Please let me know what GE model is recommended to fit.

These two model numbers are the same microwave. If you are replacing your old microwave with the same model, then it's still recommended to use the new hardware that came with the unit to install the microwave. If you bought a different model, it would have came with a new kit as well that you will have to use to install the microwave. This includes using all of the new hardware that came with it. Q: QuestionCurrently have GE Profile Spacemaker Eterna, was is a good GE replacement? The Eterna has vents at the top, does that mean it vents into the room, not external? And I need a replacement that will do the same.

• A:Answer Hello iowawalilley, Great question! We'd be more than happy to help you. Your microwave having vents at the top, means that it's externally vented. External ventilation uses a fan to draw air through the microwave's vents and into an exhaust duct leading to the outside. This means that most of the moisture, heat, and odor generated by cooking goes directly outside. To find this information, we recommend looking at the specs of the microwaves you're considering. Check the row that says "venting type", and make sure it says externally vented. We would like to know more about your current microwaves measurements. The paper you are referring to is the cover/wave guide. This needs to stay in place since this helps to disperse the microwaves throughout the cavity. If this is removed, a technician would be needed to make sure that it's replaced properly since it's so close to the magnetron. Q: QuestionI see the overall outside dimensions of the JVM6175DKWW microwave, but I wanted to confirm or know the exact back height. On some over the range microwaves units, the back height can be a little less than the overall height of the entire microwave.

Q: QuestionMy 36 inch JVM3670BF001 died. What can I replace it with? It is built in. Would a 30 Inch replacement work? Replacing the 36 Inch with a 30 inch seems like the way to go. Would the mounting brackets and hood be compatible?

We do not offer 36" modes any longer but do offer side filler kits for just this situation. The part is JX36BBB and available at Best Buy to cover the extra three inches on both sides.
