  • QuestionHow many amps does this pull?

    Asked by Justin.

    • Answer Hi Justin - Running amps is 2.0. Wattage rating is approximately 230. The freezer should always be plugged into its own individual electrical outlet which has a voltage rating that matches the rating plate. A 115 Volt AC, 60 Hz, 15- or 20-amp fused, grounded electrical supply is required. This provides the best performance and also prevents overloading house wiring circuits which could cause a fire hazard from overheated wires. The freezer must be properly grounded. The power cord of this appliance is equipped with a three-prong (grounding) plug which mates with a standard three-prong (grounding) wall receptacle to minimize the possibility of electric shock hazard from this appliance. • QuestionWhat is the starting watt of this unit?

    Asked by Jsteele.

    • Answer Hey there! We appreciate you taking the time to ask us this question. Unfortunately, we don't have access to this information and encourage you to check the rating plate of this freezer to find that. All our appliances have the wattage listed on the rating plates. It is also important to note that freezers have a "surge" of power when the compressor of the unit cycles on. We hope this information is helpful. Please reach out to us with additional questions. • QuestionWhat is the energy use comparison between the FCM16SL and the FCM16DL (which is energy star certified, but not available in Canada that I can find)?

    Asked by Lynn.

    • Answer Hello. We appreciate your interest in our freezers! We know how important the energy use of your unit would be, and we’re glad to advise. The compressors are different between these two models – the FCM16SL has a less efficient compressor than the FCM16DL. The estimated yearly electricity use of FCM16SL is 308 kWh. The cost would depend on your use and utility rates; we estimate the cost to run the freezer would be $37 (in United States dollars) per year, based on a (also U.S. based) national average electricity cost of 12 cents per kWh. Meanwhile, the FCM16DL has an estimated yearly electricity use of 277 kWh, with an estimated yearly cost of $33. We hope this information is helpful. If you have additional questions about this, calling our customer service in Canada at 1-877-994-5366 may be best. You are also of course always welcome to reach out here or over social media with any other questions or concerns. Best wishes! -Sarah@GEA

  • QuestionIs it ok to have a lamp and some notebooks on top of the freezer while it is in use? Thank You

    Asked by chuckc.

    • Answer Hello- We appreciate your question and are happy to help! We don't recommend putting heavy items or large items on top the freezer, however it is fine to temporarily have a lamp and notebooks on top. We recommend 3 inches of clearance on all sides and the back. Maintaining these air clearances will provide proper air circulation and ease of installation. We hope this is helpful! If you have any questions in the future, please let us know. We are here for you. Joyce@GEA
