Yes, the dishwasher has a very strong chemical odor. The odor was even on our dishes. We had to rewash our dishes in extremely hot water to remove the smell. We have run our dishwasher multiple times and it has not gotten any better. Avoid GE products!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I just ran my first load through mine. There was no smell until the drying cycle came on; I had it set on "Boost." Yes, the smell was rather noticeable, but I'm going to guess that it only occurs because the heating element gets the temperature pretty high inside the tub. I'm also going to guess that the smell will eventually become less evident the more I use the drying cycles. One positive thing about the smell was that it dissipated rapidly once the drying cycle was over. I haven't had the opportunity to wash without the heated drying cycle, and I don't think I will because I like the heat. I'm pretty sure I can live with the smell, as it didn't take over the whole house. I'm so happy with the features on this machine, and with the efficient way in which it cleans the dishes, the smell is not an issue for me at all.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Hello js - this is Nancy at GE Appliances and I am happy to help you. During the initial use, you may detect a distinctive smell that is attributed to tub material, chlorine bleach in detergent and the smell of rinse aid. This is normal and the smell will tend to dissipate during normal use. We would not consider this to be a very strong smell. I hope this helps! Thanks for checking with us!
