• A:Answer Cooktop knobs breaking is certainly not something we would expect to happen and understand your concern. The knobs on this cooktop are electro-plated plastic but they are weighted so they have the feel of metal knobs without the heat issues. We hope this answers your question! • A:Answer To clean the stainless steel surface, use warm sudsy water or a stainless steel cleaner or polish. Always wipe the surface in the direction of the grain. Follow the cleaner instructions for cleaning the stainless steel surface. The black cooktop will need to be cleaned with a mild soap and water or a 50/50 solution of vinegar and water. be sure to rinse with clean water and dry with a soft cloth. When cleaning surfaces, make sure that they are at room temperature and not in direct sunlight. -Don@GEAppliances

Q: QuestionWe have the JGP5036SL. Can I place a pot directly on the burner caps? With the grates, the pot is so far from the flames that it takes DOUBLE the time and gas to heat compared with my previous gas stove.

• A:Answer We would not recommend placing a pot directly on the burner. Placing it over the burner would cause the burner to work improperly. Additional information about the surface burners and proper use can be found in your use and care guide (page 6) on the website.

Q: QuestionCan you please tell me where the gas valve & power cord is located on this model. Back left or back right? I don't see the info anywhere in the specs. I'm replacing one with the valve and cord on the right side just in front of the back corner.

• A:Answer The gas supply is on the back right side of the cooktop. Additionally, the power supply cord is 3 feet long so it will easily reach this area. This can be found on page 2 of the Installation Guide on our GE Appliances website.

Q: QuestionI have the JGP5036 cooktop. Is there a way to just wipe off the grates to clean them without putting them in the dishwasher? I've tried various sponges/cloths, but because the grates are so rough it just shreds what I have tried to use.

• A:Answer Thanks for reaching out about this! If you would like to manually clean your grates, they should be washed in hot, soapy water and rinsed with clean water. To soften burned-on food, place grates in a solution containing ¼-cup of household ammonia for several hours. Afterward, scrub grates with a plastic scouring pad soaked in hot, soapy water. Rinse well and dry. We certainly know how tearing up your clothes would be annoying and hope this helps! -Chris@GEA

Q: Questionhow easy is it to turn burners on, does it have an electric igniter?

• A:Answer Hello- We appreciate your question and your interest in this cooktop. This does have an electronic ignition and you have to push the knob in and turn it to the LITE position. You'll hear a clicking noise...the sound of the electric spark igniting the burner. When one burner is set to the LITE position, all the burners will spark. This is normal.
