Yes, I noticed the same problem after the first use. The top looked horrible as if it was permanently damaged. I couldn’t get it cleaned back to normal even after scrubbing which seemed to make it look even worse. I put a cover over it and considered it ruined, however, the next time I went to use it I left some soapy water soak on the cooktop for awhile before wiping it clean and many of the marks from the first use came off. There’s still some blemishes left behind but it’s looking a lot better. I’ve been careful to clean the bottom of the cookware before using. It seems to be a common issue with these types of cooktops from what I can tell. They seem to cling to dirt more than my previous glass cooktop. Seems like the top can be cleaned but I don’t think it will ever look good as new because in some areas, the black around the heating elements has turned white. As if some of the black color has worn off already.

They brought a second top and the tech indicated it a known problem. The second top is worse than the first. It's clearly a problem that they are not concerned with but I agree the stove is ruined and was a total waste of money. These are not spots that can be cleaned, they are spots left from a flaw in how the range top was made. Trying to get someone at GE to speak with is another entirely frustrating problem. I've been going around and around with them, hours on the phone and still no assistance.

Please try again later.I have the exact same problem I have a brand new GE cooktop and after 1 month of use looks horrible all the black coating is gone over the range areas! i had a whirpool for 15 years and looked as new the day we replaced it as the day we bought it! And they consider it cosmetic so do not care but to me it's a statement to quality of product!

After a few months it looks very old. We did everything recommended but to no avail. And asking GE for help was useless. The repair person said that there was nothing he could do and that it was a common problem. Why wouldn’t GE provide a disclaimer? Terrible terrible customer service and a terrible product.

Despite being new, it appears worn out after only a few uses, which is concerning. I had hoped that replacing my old cooktop, which had served me well for 15 years, would be an upgrade, but I am unfortunately disappointed with the current state of my new appliance.

We encourage you to follow the directions on page 21 of the owner's manual for proper cleaning instructions. Occasionally, marks will appear on the glass cooktop from your cookware or the foods cooked. In most cases, these marks can be removed following the directions outlined in the manual.
