  • QuestionHow do I turn on or off the interior cooking light?

    • Answer the light comes on when you open the door or when the microwave is running. If not then check if the bulb has burned out.

  • QuestionInstalled a new GE Profile microwave over our GE Profile Stove around 3 years ago. The door handle is disfigured and the door has cracks on the exterior and on the side near the latch. Does GE guarantee this product? It is very expensive.

  • QuestionCan this be mounted on a surface? For example, on a shelf?

    • Answer Hi there - Great question! Over-the-range microwaves cannot be used on a counter or shelf and are not UL approved for this purpose. Keep in mind the underside is not flat on over-the range microwaves and would not provide a stable surface.   • QuestionWhat electric range will match the pvm9179skss Microwave? I’m looking at the JB655skss or the JB645rkss. I noticed some have black accents and some have grey.

  • QuestionI am looking to replace a GE-Profile 1.8 cu. ft. over the range microwave - stainless steel. I don't readily see a 1.8 replacement. Can you help with a recommendation? All of our other kitchen appliances are GE Profile - stainless steel.

  • QuestionIt says to “reset filter”. Do I need to replace filter? If so, where do I get one and where does it go?

If your microwave was converted to recirculating (ventless) and not vented to the outside, the air will be recirculated through a disposable charcoal filter (WB02X35607 included) that helps remove smoke and odors. Filters can be purchased online at GEApplianceparts.com or call our GE Appliances Parts Team for assistance at 1-877-959-8688, Mon–Fri 8am–7pm, Sat 8:30am–5pm ET. The filter is not required if vented outdoors. You can simply reset the filter light.   • QuestionCan you broil in the GE Profile? I dont see a broil button. My regular oven broils at 500 degrees. Should I just set the temperature at 500 degrees? Of course the temperature should actually be set at 475.

  • QuestionI have the PVM9179 Profile microwave. While I love it, I have an issue regarding grease. The microwave is vented to the outside, but there is a lot of grease that collects on the upper grill and runs. Is this normal?

The metal filters trap grease released by foods on the cooktop and should be cleaned once a month, or as needed for best performance. To clean the vent filters, soak them and then swish around in hot water and detergent. Light brushing can be used to remove embedded grease.   • QuestionMy GE Profile over the stove top microwave goes on when I open the door. I don't know if it's the fan or if the microwave is actually working. When I close the door is goes off. When I set the panel to heat something it works.

  • QuestionI see there are three ways to vent this item. Is there any advantages or disadvantages for any of them? Should the mounting bracket for my current GE microwave JVM1331WW work for this one as well?

    • Answer Hi babyscout - Thanks for considering GE Profile Model PVM9179SKSS! Outside venting is preferable. If the model is not vented to the outside, the air will be recirculated through a disposable charcoal filter (included) that helps remove smoke and odors. The charcoal filter cannot be cleaned. It must be replaced when it is noticeably dirty or discolored (usually after 6 to 12 months, depending on usage). Also, when replacing an over-the-range microwave, the mounting bracket included with the new microwave should be used since the mounting bracket is specific to each model.
