A:AnswerI wish I could answer your question more directly, and I'm hoping that someone else can. However, I do know that you can set up the nest protect smoke detectors and link them to Phillip's hue lights to create a similar effect to what you described. My understanding is that with Phillip's hue lights and a nest protect you can set the lights to turn on and change to a specific color depending on the type of event (carbon monoxide or fire). I hope this information helps, and I've included a link to the article that describes this effect.

A:AnswerHi, great question! Yes, our Nest Protect 2nd Generation (Battery) can detect natural gas leaks. You can learn more about the device's sensors by clicking on this link: https://support.google.com/googlenest/answer/9251133?sjid=6803576398869877524-NA#:~:text=Carbon%20monoxide%20sensor,date%20of%20manufacture.
A:AnswerUp to a year depending if you utilize the motion nightlight option. The batteries are AA lithium style. You could use AA rechargeable if you have.
A:AnswerNo it will not specifically detect natural gas. However, a byproduct of natural gas is CO. The Nest Protect will notify you if CO levels are rising to a dangerous level. But again, this is not a multi gas meter. It will not detect natural gas levels.
A:AnswerCoast rechargeable Zithion-x batteries (from Menard's) worked for 9 days before my Nest Protect complained about low batteries. I expected something like that since they simulate alkaline batteries. I then tried XTAR LI rechargeable 4150 mWh batteries and they only worked until the nightly voltage check, even though they are supposed to be like Lithium batteries until 10% SoC. You need batteries that stay above 1.54 Volts for a couple months (that seems to be the cutoff for the low battery warning), which is what the disposable Energizer battery it's designed to work with does. At least it works for a couple months before failing.
Please let me know if you find anything that'll work.
