No need for special batteries. The cold temps will actually help maintain the camera’s temp. This camera can easily overheat if you use the the highest video settings.

The issue you'll want to watch out for is that very cold temps can cause lithium batteries to drain faster than they would in normal temps. Keeping the camera warm (ex. inside a coat pocket) between uses can help extend the life. If you do plan to spend a lot of time in colder temps, you might want to look at the new Enduro battery that is specifically designed to perform better in cold temps. Both the original battery and the Enduro will work in colder temps, but you'll likely get longer battery life from the Enduro.
