How does the light on the keyboard turns on? null

When it boots the keyboard light comes on initially and times out in a few seconds. It lights up again every time you touch a key and then goes back off. There is a dedicated function key combination (FN+F5) to turn on or off the keyboard lighting.

I believe it’s on whenever computer is awake. I keep a cover over my keypad so I don’t ever see light.
