“I really like this machine so far, but have had for about 2 weeks and the machine has shut down twice now due to a "Thermal Shutdown"/overheating......I have it on a cooling pad too.... was wondering if anyone else has experienced this and what resolution”

We are having the same issue! No resolution as I anticipate that they didn’t put enough paste on the cpu. In addition we are only seeming about 3 hours of battery life maximum. Often well under that. This is my wife’s machine and all she uses it for is browsing the web and word processing. This is definitely going back to the store after seeing your question. I hope my comments help you in your decision.
