• A:Answer DO NOT buy more than one replacement ink cartridge at a time. I purchased two high capacity HP 952XL black cartridges on sale several years ago and my HP Officejet Pro 8710 will not recognize them because they are past HP's "expiration date". I now have two full perfectly good ink cartridges that I paid over $100 for that are going in the trash and I need to purchase a new cartridge. I'm done with HP. Probably go back to an Epson with the ink refill system.

• A:Answer There are 2 types of ink that printers use: dye based and pigment based. Dyes use very small particles of colourant, dissolved in liquid. They are easy for ultraviolet rays to damage, one of the main mechanisms of light fading in prints. To protect the dyes, it's important they can soak into the surface of the paper. With pigments, which use far larger particles of colourant held in suspension, ultraviolet rays cause much less degradation and it's better if the pigments sit on the surface of the paper, without soaking in. Having said that, the HP 952 ink cartridges are pigment based. They are fade resistant and more water resistant than dye based inks. I hope this helps.

• A:Answer If your printer requires the 952 cartridge, but it won't install properly and become fully seated, return to Best Buy and check the keyhole combination on the printer facing side of the cartridge. See photo. It may be because of country of manufacture, there are different hole arrangements and Best Buy is mixing this supply across the USA.

• A:Answer Almost all inkjet cartridges will dry out especially if they are not used daily. And the warmer the room in which your printer is located, the faster the ink cartridge in it will dry out during periods of no use. Perhaps try removing the ink cartridge from the printer and storing it in a sealed airtight bag is way from heat and sunlight if you are not going to print using it for a week or more, such as while on a vacation.

• A:Answer The XL is high capacity and contains up to 2.5 times more ink than the standard size 63 ink. Standard 63 ink will print ~190 pages black and ~165 pages tri-color. XL will print ~480 pages black and ~300 pages tri-color. ( I copied a google search)
