Word and Excel are part of the Microsoft Office suite which is NOT included free with the Windows operating system, although a 30-day trial version of Office 360 is often bundled with new computers. Most users could get by with Google Docs and Google Sheets, which are included with Google Drive, which is free; but for full office suite functionality and excellent compatibility at no cost, I'd recommend installing LibreOffice.
