A:AnswerKimmie! This is par for the course for these items. The housing on the Macbooks is not made well enough to support the weight of this device and after plugging and unplugging over time it will not hold properly and you will get the cut offs that you are getting. It usually takes longer than 3 weeks though so you may have a bad unit. Either way - I would return it and look for another dock that connects by just the cable. Unfortunately the one that Apple recommends is like $200. The techs at the "Genius" bar do not like these adapters either and I was told this by one of them when I brought my macbook in for a similar problem to what you are having. Good luck!
A:AnswerIf the MacBook Pro 3 or 4 has two thunderbolt ports available to connect to it will work. This is an adapter for USB, HDMI, SD, thunderbolt, and SD mini. There is no VGA port on this device
