You most likely have the comfort button on. Turn it off and you should be able to set the humidity level. They explain this particular item very poorly in the manual. I had the same issue. Good Luck!

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.You initially set the level you want it to aim for with the buttons and then I believe it shows the actual level in the room. I set mine to 40. I have two running in my basement. One is hooked up to a hose so that it constantly runs until it reaches 40% humidity in the room. The other we empty about two to three times a day depending on humidity levels.
