Cable won't work on MacBook or Mini Mac.   (5 Answers)

I am trying to run video throughout the cable from my Thunderbolt port. Cable won't work on my Macbook Pro, or my MiniMac. I have tried to hook it up to an HDTV and to an HD projector. Neither will work with this cable. Am I doing something wrong?

        Answer

I have a Mac and I connect my mac to my HDTV.. you just need a normal HDMI cord and Thunderbolt to HDMI conversion cable. Plug HDMI to Cable, HDMI cable to conversion cable, then thunderbolt to MacBook. You have to make sure you go to your setting on your MacBook and get your screen correct because it wont know if you want to copy the image to the tv or use it has an additional screen. hope you get it.. I love having it

Well, its got the right ports in the right places, you're just going to have to try it out. BBY will accept a return if it doesn't work, i'm sure. It should work though,.

I believe it only works from Mini to HDMI. Not HDMI to Mini. But I’ll try it and message you back if I can find your question again.

4K and/or Surface Book Dock compatible?   (5 Answers)

Can anyone confirm whether this cable is compatible with a 4k monitor? How about connecting to a 4k monitor through the new Surface Book Dock?

Don't know about dock throughput, but it does support 4K. I'm running 3840 x 2160 from my Surface Pro 3 to a 55" Samsung UHD Smart TV. Looks great!

Possible the TV is too old?   (5 Answers)

Got this to connect my 4 year old MacBook Pro to my TV. It won't work. I know the cord works, because I took my computer and the cord back to BestBuy and tested it on one of their monitors and it worked perfectly. Naturally this makes me think my TV is the issue. It's a 4 year old Samsung, however there is only 1 HDMI channel so maybe it just doesn't have the input needed? Any help would be great.

You might need to go into your video options on the MacBook after connecting to the tv, and then select Discover Displays. Apple's OS' can be choosey when it comes to auto detecting external monitors. If you have El Capitan installed, when you go into your display options, you have to hold down a key to reveal "hidden" options to get where you need to go. You should find a tutorial easily on Bing or Google.

          Additional adapter needed?   (10 Answers)

Do you need any kind of adapter with this product or should you be able to hook it up directly from the Mac to the HDMI spot in the tv? It's not reading for me when I do that but it's an old tv with only 1 hdmi source - is it possible the tv is just too old to be compatible?

I didn't need an adapter to connect from my 2013 MacBook Air to a HP external display ...it worked straight away. It is possible that your Mac is driving your display at a setting higher than it's capable of, so you might want to see if you can start with lower settings and see if that helps.
