That is a very complicated question. Google the AMD processor model the put vs i5 or i7. Websites will show you all the data on how they compare. The A12 and the FX Amd processors are quad-core while and 7th gen i5 is a duo. Personally I think the 12 and FX are faster than the i5 by quite a bit. It also depends on how much ram the computer has and what task you are performing. A couple of Google searches will get you on the right track to figure out what's right for you. Amd processors are a great alternative to expensive gaming computers because of the graphics card they come with and their multitasking abilites.

AMD processors quite technically, and literally, handle video/graphical processing better, i.e. gaming, video. etc. Hence, why they have always been placed inside of large gaming rigs, and every game console to be made (not literally, but the past 3 generations of Xbox and PlayStation). However, Intel processors will show exceptional aptitude when looking at multiple processing needs, such as 40 open tabs on Chrome, writing in Word and watching YouTube, or making videos. Either way, both these processors are fantastic, and the AMD-A12 definitely competes with the latest i5 or an older kadylake i7. What will limit this laptop, and I know because I own it, is it's generic hardrive. It's only a 5400 rpm hardrive and the newest Windows update will take hours, and I mean 6-8 hours to download and set-up it's ludicrous. Now, this isn't the processors fault, the fastest processor can only do so much if the information cannot be written down quick enough. Now if you were to place a SSD, like a 512gb, or so then you'll have an incredible system and for a seriously cheap price. Or, just replace it with a better 1TB hardrive with a 10,000 rpm speed (I'm sure Best Buy still has some for sell on the extended Cyber Week deals). I picked this and the AMD-A6 Lenovo up as Black Friday Door-busters. So, for anyone reading this, yes it is worth it, even at the $379 price point, you'll be hard pressed to find a decent laptop without settling for an HP, and if you're not wanting to get this, but still want to stay low end then i suggest you look to ASUS, comparable in nature to Dell.
