A:AnswerI just put my a/c unit up yesterday & so I don't know about how things would be in winter.
But, the unit did fit snuggly into my window. The guy that installed my a/c unit also put duck tape around the left & right sides as well as putting the spongy foam underneath the unit to take care of any tiny cracks that an insect might get through.
You can also use spray foam (that you can purchase at any hardware store) to put around the sides (and bottom, if it suits you) to cover any tiny openings.
