I place my heavier dinner plates in the back of the lower rack. I place salad plates, saucers, bowls in the front part of the lower rack. I don't experience the problem you mentioned. I don't experience soap residue, I use the normal recommended liquid rinse, but I also use "Jet Dry Finish" it comes in a small basket that hangs from the upper rack out of any interference with the blade fan rotation. Sold 2 baskets per packaging box, inexpensive also. I am very happy with the performance of my very quite dishwasher and I am glad I made the decision. Good luck with your decision, too.
