  • QuestionWhat are the differences between the 65ub9500 and the 65uf8500

    Asked by Eagle.

    • Answer Hello Eagle. Thank you for your inquiry. The main difference between the UF8500 series and the UB9500 series will be that the UF8500 is a 2015 TV and the UB9500 is a 2014 TV. The 9500 series was a step up to the 8500 series, so if will you're comparing them, the UF8500 is a step down from the UF9500 series for this year and the UB8500 was a step down from the UB9500 from last year. The UF series will feature Google's VP9 decoder for 4K playback on YouTube that only became available in 2015. There are other differences but you would be better served doing a feature comparison on these models on the company site...IFV

  • QuestionDoes anyone know if there is a setting for the up scaling feature this TV has?I have found that this TV does not upscale low resolution video. My cable standard definition channels are just as poorly visible with this TV as they were with my 10 year old TV I replaced. It does seem to upscale blue ray DVD. The HD channels I get with my cable package are only slightly improved. Is this common, or did I miss a setting ?

    • Answer Thank you for your inquiry. The LG - 65" Class (64.5" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 3D - 4K Ultra HD TV - , Model # 65UF8500 automatically upscales. It has a native resolution of 2160p and it will always upscale content to its native resolution. This is what the 1080p and 720p TVs did as well. If the resolution you're upscaling from, is extremely low, your picture will not look good at all, the TV would have too much to make up for that gap. The closer to the native resolution your content is, the easier it is to upscale to the native resolution and have the picture look good. To present lower-resolution material on a 4k TV, the TV has to perform upscaling. This process increases the pixel count of a lower-resolution image, allowing a picture meant for a screen with fewer pixels to fit a screen with many more. It’s important to remember that since the amount of information in the signal doesn’t change, there won’t be more detail present...^IFV

  • QuestionDoes 65uf8500 convert 2D to 3D, and does it support HDMI 2.0?

    Asked by Eagle.

    • Answer Your inquiry is appreciated. The LG - 65" Class (64.5" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 3D - 4K Ultra HD TV - Model # will convert 2D to 3D and vice versa. Hopefully this is not too technical an answer with regards to whether or not the TV supports HDMI 2.0. TVs can process 1080p at 120 Hz/FPS, but can only process 4K (3840x2160) at 60 Hz/FPS. They do not use true 4:4:4 chroma signaling. Instead they use 4:2:0 chroma subsampling. 4:2:0 chroma subsampling is a method that although not an official HDMI 2.0 spec, was added in HDMI 2.0 as an "unsupported" spec. " This is done so that the TV can receive 3840 x 2160p 60 signals over HDMI 1.4 systems. Sending Chroma 4:2:0 signals to the TV reduces the bandwidth needed so an HDMI 2.0 compliant port is not required. Keep in mind that this TV cannot receive UHD (3840 x 2160 pixels) broadcasts directly because the related standards have not been yet confirmed. There really has been only one TV that had a true 2160p 60 input that could handle 4:4:4 chroma signals because it was the only one with a DisplayPort 1.2 port. The HDMI 2.0 spec does NOT define or require new cables or connectors, according to the information the HDMI Forum has released so far. The testing specification for HDMI 2.0 has not yet been established, and there are no cables that can be officially labeled as “HDMI 2.0 Compliant,” HDMI has stated that all current High Speed cables are capable of transmitting 18 Gbps when used with HDMI 2.0 electronics at both ends, and are therefore compatible with all HDMI 2.0 features. This is accomplished using signal processing that will be employed in all HDMI 2.0 hardware. For compatibility with all HDMI 2.0 features, new cables are not required for customers with High Speed cables...IFV

  • QuestionWhat is the input voltage for the LG 65UF8500? Is it 110-240v or just 110-120?

    Asked by Uzo.

    • Answer The ENERGY STAR® Qualified LG 65" Class (64.5" Diagonal) 4K UHD Smart LED TV w/ webOS 2.0, Model # 65UF6800 is dual voltage TV that can be plugged into either a 100 Volt outlet at 60 Hz or a 240V outlet at 50 Hz. The standard voltage available in most parts of the US is now nominally 120 VAC volts +/- 10%, and can vary from 108 VAC to 132 VAC. It's usually around 117-118 VAC. You'll see mention of 110V, 115V, 117V, and 120V, but these are due to resistive losses, long line lengths, etc., but after all is said and done, the numbers mean the same thing, just as 220/230/240 mean the same thing...^IFV

  • QuestionBacklight settingI am trying to get the best black level I can so what settings should I use for the backlight and contrast to get punchy blacks. I use the sports preset and then I adjust the brightness and other settings but just can't seem to get a bright picture with good detail.

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer You would be better off getting the LG 65" Class (64.5" Diagonal) 4K UHD Smart 3D LED TV w/ webOS 2.0, Model # 65UF8500 calibrated professionally. Getting the best blacks on the set will be dictated by the content, the inputs and the room environment so getting settings from someone else may not work for you because they have a different environment from yours. Professional calibration calibrates each input for the devices that is connected to it, the room lighting and they also have access to other settings in the service menu that are not accessible to consumers. You might find some suggestions online in various forums that might improve the picture quality and get you better blacks, but if you want it done right and want the best picture you can get, you should get it calibrated professionally...^IFV

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer South Korea is one of few countries that like the US use the NTSC Broadcasting System for their TV programming so the LG - 65" Class (64.5" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 3D - 4K Ultra HDTV, Model # 65UF8500 will work in South Korea but you will need to pay a license fee which is added to your electrical bill. You can also subscribe to one of the many cable TV service providers in Korea, and you will be asked for certain documents and Satellite TV is also available through Skylife, a digital satellite broadcasting company and for that you will have to pay for equipment and an installation fee and then a basic monthly charge applies. Again, you will be asked for documentation when applying...^IFV

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Thank you for your inquiry. The LG - 65" Class (64.5" Diag.) - LED - 2160p - Smart - 3D - 4K Ultra HD TV - Black Model # 65UF8500 comes with factory default settings, but it does offer a lot of customization for you to calibrate it to your preferences. Best Buy's Geek Squad services do offer Professional Calibration that would calibrate the set for the room for which that TV is installed in and will calibrate it for each device that you have connected to it. Getting settings online or from elsewhere would not be the best way to go since those settings are not suited to your environment. You should inquire from Best Buy's Geek Squad services about a calibration, that will give you the best possible picture and black levels for watching cable and Blu-ray movies...^IFV

  • QuestionAre the 3D glasses passive or active? Are the 3D glasses similar to those in movie theaters? Or are they electronic with batteries?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer 2 passive glasses come with LG TV (no batteries which would make then 'active', heavier and less comfortable to wear). LG glasses are better than movie theater 3D glasses and wrap around you eye/face giving you a more realistic 3D experience. I recommend ordering extra set of same through LG online as Best Buy does not carry which is what store rep recommended too.
