“What’s the difference between the 8 series “Edge lit” vs. the 9 series “Direct lit”? I can’t seem to find an explanation from LG anywhere. Everyone wants to compare NanoCell to OLED but not edge vs. direct.”

Series 8 is not as good for blacks. Series 9 gives you blacker blacks in the picture. If you're a perfectionist and want the best of the best, you want series 9. Personally I find the series 8 pretty darn excellent all around.
