• No, there is no built-in microphone: it uses your linked-device's microphone. To be clear, that means you sync the pen to your iPhone via bluetooth, open the app, select to start recording, and then you put the pen to paper. This is also supposed to work by clicking the record icon on the paper, but that failed in my tests.

• yes, but you need to have the app open to record. it does not save on the pen just transmits the audio to your phone /ipad
