The grates are not a problem. The problem is the black surface under the grates which shows up every stray speck of salt and grease. If you get it in white it is easier to deal with.

The grates are also able to be washed in the dishwasher. The burner caps and the griddle can be cleaned with mild soap and water but are not dishwasher safe.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Yes the grates are easy to clean. The advantage to having grates cover the cook top is that it is easier to slide big pots like pressure cooker or a fry pan off a hot burner for cool down.
