QuestionIs this standard MSI configuration or modified specifically for Best Buy

- Answer This is not the standard configuration, ignore the other response. The 005 listed by MSI has the 2070 Max-Q but a 512GB SSD, this one from Best Buy has a 1TB SSD. I bought it and it just arrived today, and I was worried the BB listing was wrong, but it does in fact have a 1TB. It also seems to have the 240Hz LCD, not the optional 300Hz MSI offers in the GS66. It's a fantastic machine, so far!

- Answer West Lafayette native here (Go Boilermakers!) I also plan on buying one of these bad boys soon, as I am about to start Engineering school as well. I am going with the 15 inch GS66 because it will be much easier to carry around VS the 17 inch. If you want to do gaming at your dorm/apartment, buy a separate monitor and keyboard and you can play on that.

- Answer I agree, this should CLEARLY state RTX 2070 Max-q as there is a big difference between Max-q (less power) and full-powered non-Max-q chips.

- Answer Ignore the other answer, this does have the 1TB listed by Best Buy, not the 512GB listed for the GS66-005 that the MSI site and the PDF the other reply provided. I was worried about it, but laptop came in today and confirmed it is 1TB.

- Answer I've gotten 4 to 5 hours of normal usage, just be sure to turn off the gaming mode and turn on battery saver

QuestionIf I were to purchase this would I need to replace the thermal paste in the future? I'm very nervous when it comes to these sorts of upgrades with laptops as I don't want to mess up anything in there.

- Answer I don't think so. These seem to be made pretty well. The only things you can upgrade are the RAM and SSD. Everything is as is and non-upgradeable. If you are worried about heat then buy the MSI Raider series. You will sacrifice portability for bigger heat sinks... BTW, fans are loud. Buy a cooling mat.

- Answer I was able to put a 1tb in the extra slot, never tried 2tb...either way its super easy to do. If your able to get 2tb in and working please let me know.

- Answer No...they have the exact same specs and performance and the thermals are a little bit better on the M15. The only difference is the per-key RGB keyboard, but I'm okay with the color shift RGB on the M15. Save yourself $300 and go with Asus...I had both and the M15 is the better choice for the money.

QuestionThree questions: What is the chassis made of? Is the chassis unibody? I've heard that the plastic trim can be fragile. Has anyone experienced this trim cracking or breaking with normal use?

- Answer MSI GS66 body is made of Aluminum (where the screen is) and what appears to be plastic for the underside. I have not had my unit long enough to say whether it will crack or not. The unit appears to be well constructed but does not seam too rugged (so I would recommend being gentile with it). The one thing I do not like is how the bezel and screen are attached to the computer (the double sided tape seams a bit too weak). I experienced that issue within two weeks of owning the computer. My guess is; due to heat build up, the tape adhesive softens up too much. The result being the bezel and screen pull away from the bottom right hinge. I had to remedy this issue by reinforcing things with a third party double sided tape (designed for electronic devices and the heat that will naturally build up) and applying it to the loose area. I feel that the MSI should have been better assembled with stronger adhesive (Due to the MSI being a higher end computer, the consumer should not have been tasked with correcting this problem). I tend to use my computer most of the time using an external monitor and with the screen clam shelled shut (So that might explain the extra heat). Regarding the chassis being a unibody, I'm not familiar enough with that design to accurately confirm this or not.

- Answer Ive had this for about one month or so, give or take a few days maybe a week extra... bottom line is this... The overall quality of the structural integrity of this laptop much less the hinges you ask of.. is on par with most higher end laptop manufacturers and nothing short of below or above average hinge quality or performance... ? If you really want to know something... Your initial inquiry about said hinge quality/issues is the first time Ive heard of it being brought up at all with this particular model. The screen is nothing spectacular for a 15.6' screen that has a blazing fast refresh rate of 240Hz and that does nothing to the strain applied to said hinges and how they perform or hold up while in use.. when i say in use i mean the initial opening and closing of the screen.. which is something we do once every time we use the system unless your like me and have it in a more stationary position that basically requires me to open the laptop one time so far and ill only close it when i need to take it somewhere.. which is basically nowhere at all.. like i have no need to travel around with a $2K LAPTOP and assume its going to be in a safe environment at all times? lol

- Answer MSI actually has a few different Refresh Rates that you can get in the laptop but the better it is the more the laptop will cost this one does have a 240hz that i have used in games that looks absolutely amazing.

- Answer It does NOT have a numeric keypad. It's the one qualm I have with this laptop. Other than that it's awesome, and I personally am willing to sacrifice the number pad for the performance, look, and feel.
