I'm not sure what you mean by "camera" -- there is no camera. Yes one of the devices will need to be plugged into your router via ethernet. But yes, this will allow you to also extend your internet into a room that isn't getting a strong signal. Please read below for more explanation. There are two devices in this kit. One which will get the internet signal from your router and send it into your home's electrical wiring, let's call this Device Zero. The other device (which has the antenna sticking out of it) is a receiver device, that can take that internet signal that's in the electrical wiring and convert it back into ethernet or wifi (both, actually), and we'll call this Device Alpha. So wherever your internet is coming in, let's say you have a cable modem, and then your router plugs into the modem to get internet and then send it out to your home over wifi. You can plug Device Zero into your router's available ethernet port. Your router will give Device Zero the internet signal, then Device Zero is plugged into the wall, so it ends this internet signal it's getting from the router into your electrical walls. Then you plug Device Alpha into a location where you have a free plug and don't get a good internet wifi signal. Device Alpha will broadcast a wifi signal in that room (it also has an ethernet port if you want to plug a device in directly). Let's say there's another location where you aren't getting a good signal, you just need to get one more device that's like Alpha, and plug that in. In fact you can plug in 10 more in addition to these two throughout the house to bring internet in other rooms/location. However, the big difference is that you're not using the router's wireless signals and trying to amplify it (what an extender/repeater does). Instead, you're using "wired" speed through your electrical circuits (What a WAP does) to the device. Once the signal reaches the device, it will be broadcast through the port (i.e. wired) and via wireless technology (i.e. wireless). In a nutshell, it's as if you wired your house, without the wiring and you get the wireless amplification for free with it.

Then it travels thru the existing electrical wiring to the other device with the antennas on it. Then a wifi signal is created from the second device (the one with antennas). If you have a camera system you can either connect it to this new network created by the powerline adapter or you can plug the camera in via Ethernet. These devices have an Ethernet plug and also creates wifi.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I use power line carriers for sending ip cameras over the electrical all the time. It can get quite involved if you have no experience. You need to set up proper ip addresses, port forwarding in your router etc. Too much to discuss in a forum.

Please try again later.Of the two parts that this kit comes with the one without the antenna gets plugged directly into your modem or router and then you use the piece that has the two antennas on it in the location where you have a weak signal in order to boost your WiFi. You will have to go into it to change its default SSID to mimic that of your main modems WiFi so that you have continuous connection throughout but that is simple. As for your camera needing to be plugged directly in I'm not quite sure what you mean by that or why it would need to be but again this kit does extend WiFi to wherever you plug it in at

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.This will extend your wifi and you also have the option of using a LAN cable. The Netgear wifi adapter has its own SSID and password so you will have to configure the camera to those, or reconfigure the adapter to use the settings on the camera.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Your IP surveillance camera does NOT need to be plugged into the router nor to this powerline WiFi extender. BUT, the camera and the extender do all need to be talking on the same SSID network. If your camera is currently talking to the router (and outside your network), you have likely setup port forwarding on your router. But, this powerline extender has its own SSID (by default). So the easistthing to do is to set the extender to the same SSID and password as the existing router. Then the camera and its port forwarding should be seamless.
