QuestionNikon 50mm f/1.8G AF-S - Stock Issues - Anyone have the scoop?Good Day All, Leaving for vacation in a month and have had this lens on backorder from Amazon for almost three weeks with shipping times stated as 2-3 months (which usually means no one knows when stock will become available). I've noticed this lens is available in AU, which is closer to where Nikon manufactures their glass (China/Thailand/Vietnam) and am hoping this means the boat is on it's way with more for us. I'd prefer to order the lens from BestBuy but since the lens is only available for in-store pickup and no store has them, I cannot ever place a back-order. Does anyone @ BBY have any indication when stock is expected for this lens? If within 30 days, I'd prefer to cancel my backorder and wait it out...but do not want to guess. Thanks!

- Answer Yes it will. You have an autofocus motor in the camera model already so you only need the AF lenses. However, the AF-S is also compatible.

- Answer You can get close, but not as close as to be able to do any descent macro shots. For that you wold need a macro lens. If shooting full frame, this would be an nice all-around lens for almost anything but macro. If shooting cropped, this would work best as a portrait lens. Either way, a must have lens for any Nikon shooter. Just don't expect any macro abilities.

QuestionIs this lens better for family portrait indoor and outdoor, compared with 35 mm lens ?I am just thinking of buying another lens, but can't decide which lens, whether the 50 mm f 1.8 G or the 35 mm f 1.8 for my Nikon D3200 which I bought last year. I will need it for family portraits indoor and outdoor. Thanks

- Answer For portraits you want a longer focal length. So the 50 mm would be a better choice than a 35 mm.

- Answer Yes, you can use DX lenses on your D810. Be aware though, that the outside of the picture will cropped from FX size to DX size, but it works fine. The reason the image is cropped is that a DX lens will project a small image onto the sensor compared to an FX lens. The D810 automatically detects DX lenses and does the cropping for you. When you look through the viewfinder of the D810, you'll see an outline showing you where the cropping will happen.
