The Rift must be cabled to a high end computer. The Go is nice but has only 3-degrees of freedom. The Quest is a stand alone system with 6-degrees of freedom. A high end computer is optional and provides access to additional games. The Rift-S and the Quest can track the user without external devices. The old Rift and Go require extra hardware to track the user.

The rift requires a gaming PC and can play games from both steamVR as well as the oculus store. The quest is completely stand alone and plays games from the oculus store only and has an internal App Store like a phone. That said the quest is getting an update in November that will allow it to connect to a pc and act just like a rift. I originally had a rift and then returned it for a quest after hearing about the update. There are some other physical differences between the hardware but I don’t think a kid is going to complain about it. If you have time go to YouTube and look for the channel Linus Tech Tips. He did a really good breakdown of each device but honestly the Quest is what Facebook appears to be putting it money on.
