To be able to control the lights while away from your home network you have to set up a Philips Hue account and log into it on the app (once you open the app, go to the "more" tab and log in. You have to do this while you're at home, but once you're set up, you'll be able to connect while away from your network. Once you've done that, it will recognize that you're not on your home connection and instead of normally saying "connected" it will say "out of home connection". I tried this in my home to see if it works (I just turned my phone's wi-fi off) and it does but there's a little bit of a delay.

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.The 1st generation app has a cloud option while the 2nd gen does not. But you can always use the MyHue web site. It just doesn't do the cool scenes and routines.
