The hue bridge only works with hue bulbs. I paid mine with Google Home and works beautifully.

The Hue hub cannot lock doors and is used mainly for the Philips Hue bulbs. The Hue Hub supports up to 50-bulbs. When used in conjunction with the SmartThings hub, you can add automations that are not possible with only the Hue Hub. So in conclusion, yes, you can use the Hue bulbs directly with the SmartThings hub.
