A:Answer My car had steering wheel controls before I installed this Pioneer head unit too. I've priced a few adapters, and decided not to go through with wiring them in for a couple of reasons:
I found them to be too expensive, when it seemed like a pretty tricky installation, and I had no guarantee they'll work well. Also, I figured steering wheel controls were something I just had to give up when doing a custom stereo installation. Finally, this unit comes with a remote!
There are little "holsters" you can buy that are designed to hold the remote control, and they might strap onto your steering wheel easily. Maybe you can even make something yourself. Keep in mind – I think they need line-of-sight for the IR sensor to pick up each button pressed. You can always just hand it to your passenger, or even someone in the backseat.
