Q: QuestionCan a tv be mounted on this off-center? I have two studs it could potentially go into, but neither are properly centered on the wall. The stud closest to the center is about 5 inches away.

• A:Answer I would be very cautious mounting the tv mount to a Sheetmetal stud. Sheetmetal studs are thin gauge so I don’t think there is enough metal to drill and tap out. Using the mount for a small light tv utilizing Sheetmetal screws may work. You could possibly fasten the mount and stress it for weight handling before hanging the tv. The wood screws that come with it are about 5/16” diameter by 2 1/2” long. A different tv mount that would fasten to two metal studs with Sheetmetal screws might be a better solution.

• A:Answer You can *not* mount something this heavy to drywall. It must be anchored to wall studs or it will rip away from the wall — likely as soon as you put the tv on the mount, but certainly after you try to extend it away from the wall at all, even with a small, relatively light tv.
