Not all phones / tablets are MHL capable. Also try using the plugging your phone in with the extra small connecting thing and without it. Because that small thing is supposed to be the gateway to using older devices and newer ones. Also make sure your TV or DVD play doesn't have a spcific HDMI port for MHL
