If you just received the unit, please ensure it is not in demo mode. It will look like it is ON but is on the showroom demo mode. This mode will disable the cooling system in your refrigerator, freezer, and ice maker. This mode is not for storing food. Any food stored in the fridge will spoil. Models designed for use with the AquaPure water filter are shipped with a cap in place to cover the opening and keep it free of debris prior to the installation of the water filter. On most models it is not necessary to have this cap in place for the unit to bypass the filter nor is it intended to plug the housing to prevent leaks.
Most Samsung water and ice dispensers will work without an AquaPure water filter installed. The water filter housings are designed as rotary valves that allow the water to bypass the water filter whenever there is no filter or the filter is not in the locked position.

The water line kit is only needed to filter the water for your ice maker. Since you've already mentioned that you are planning on leaving the ice maker in the off position, a water line is not required.

Water supply. Turn off the water supply to your home.
Turn Icemaker OFF. Turn all temperature settings and the ice maker to the "OFF" setting.
Clean the refrigerator.
Remove remaining water.
Disconnect the Power Cord.
Disconnect the water line.
Pull the unit away from the wall.
Unplug Unit.
