“How are the cooling systems improved over your older models I have a Samsung refrigerator from about 6 or 7 years ago. I love the fridge, but now the defrost heater on the fridge side has gone out. Inexpensive part, but in these models, it is wrapped throughout the evaporator, meaning I need to replace both. This requires I find a licensed repair person to handle the refrigerant. That makes the repair vs buy new argument difficult. How have your changed the design of the cooling system to: 1) improve the reliability and 2:) make repairs easier. Thanks”

I'm sorry to hear your refrigerator needs a repair and understand that you need to choose between repairing the older refrigerator or buying a new one. Most of Samsung's refrigerators use our signature Twin Cooling system which uses a single compressor but separate evaporators for the refrigerator and freezer compartments; however, there are also models with mono cooling systems as well as variations on the Twin Cooling (called Twin Cooling Plus), so I can't tell you how your refrigerator's cooling system is different from the RSG309 or other models currently available. What I can tell you is that Samsung is committed to the research and development of new and improved technologies as evidenced in continued increases in efficiency and capacity, as well as design enhancements such as the WiFi-enabled Apps as found in the RSG309 and RF4289. In terms of reliability, while no manufacturer has a perfect track record, Samsung does have a very strong history of service and reliability as evidenced by six consecutive years of Overall Customer Satisfaction Awards for Refrigerators by JD Power & Associates (2005-2010). I would suggest contacting your local Best Buy Appliance Associates for assistance determining which model best meets your needs, and which of your options makes sense for you right now.
