• There are definitely different brightness options, and the TV itself has several pre-sets, including movie (for darker rooms), standard (for typical home use) and dynamic settings - which are bright, bright settings for use in a very brightly lit room. All of those can be a starting point for adjusting to a custom setting. Thanks for your interest in Samsung products. --Mr. S

• The consumer reporters may have had the energy saver setting turned on. When turned off, the picture quality on this tv turns extraordinary and will be amazing in daytime viewing.
