• A:Answer Maybe. I use large TV as computer monitor. There is optical cable running between TV and the Soundbar. Laptop is DVI with other end HDMI (single cable) into TV.

• A:Answer Connect soundbar to tv with digital cable and the DirecTV box and blue ray player to the tv with separate HDMI cables. With proper settings you can control all basic functions with your directv remote. You will need to use your tv remote to switch back and forth to different HDMI inputs.

• A:Answer Personally I don't think you need it because the soundbar and subwoofer that comes with it both sound great but mostly when you're watching movies. You really shouldn't have to spend the extra money. However, I do recommend getting the set of rear wireless speakers for a fantastic surround sound.
