  • QuestionWhat is the difference between a washer with an agitator and a washer with an impeller? What is an impeller?

    Asked by Anonymous.

    • Answer Greetings! We are glad to help distinguish an agitator and an impeller for you. The difference between a washer with an agitator and a washer with an impeller lies in how the washing action is generated and how clothes are moved inside the drum. 1. Washer with an Agitator: Agitator: This is a central post inside the drum that moves back and forth, usually with fins or vanes. It creates a swirling action that moves the clothes around in the water, rubbing and scrubbing them against each other. Washing Action: The agitator’s movement works by aggressively rubbing the clothes to remove dirt and stains. Benefits: Generally, agitators are effective at cleaning heavily soiled clothing because they create a lot of motion and friction. Drawbacks: The motion of the agitator can be rougher on fabrics, potentially causing more wear and tear, and it may take up more space inside the drum, limiting the capacity for larger loads. 2. Washer with an Impeller: Impeller: An impeller is a low-profile, disc-like component placed at the bottom of the washer drum. It has fins or blades that spin at a high speed to create water currents that gently move the clothes around. Washing Action: Rather than using back-and-forth motion like an agitator, an impeller uses water jets and currents to move clothes through the water. It is a gentler process, and the clothes glide across the bottom of the drum. Benefits: Impeller washers are usually quieter, use less water, and are gentler on clothes. They also typically allow for larger load capacity because there’s no central post taking up space. Drawbacks: They might not be as effective at removing heavy dirt or stains in certain circumstances compared to agitator washers.
