• Yes, you have to change it to full screen.

• It provides full screen viewing on my 64" TV so it should work out fine on your 50" Also, it allows for selecting various pixel display options (using the remote control) which is nice since I watch some DVDs from 1970's TV series and it actually "cleans up" some of the grainy-ness quite well.

• YOU have to change the picture size on the Samsung DVD player remote; cycle through the choices for picture size on the remote, using the "p.size" button down near the bottom of the remote, until you get what you want on your TV screen. Good luck!
