The Chromebook basically functions as a Chrome web browser with limited local storage. You can edit Office documents by uploading them to an online site such as Google Drive or Microsoft Office web. This will typically give you a basic functionality compared to the PC apps, and may be missing some more advanced features such as tracking changes. If you put an SD card from a camera in the Chromebook it will let you perform basic photo editing or upload the photos to a website (Google Drive by default). You can save online photos to a local Downloads folder.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Correct you cannot install Microsoft Office, but Google Docs can view all of your Microsoft Office documents and you can create new Google Docs (online and offline) that are very comparable to what you would create with Word or Excel. The nice thing is that when you create a Google Doc you can actually save it out as a Word Doc, or a PDF, if you need to send it to someone in that format. I'd choose the free Google Docs any day over the expensive Microsoft Suite. If you aren't doing crazy complex algorithms, Google Docs will fit the bill.
