A:AnswerHi Hewpmedecide, the rears do need to be plugged in. When you connect your rears to the sound bar your system becomes a 4.1 system and you will get true, or simulated, surround sound depending on how the audio was encoded. Thanks, ^Scott

A:AnswerHi Lee, The HW-Q90R soundbar has its own proprietary model speakers that go with it included in the box and cannot be bought separately. Therefore this model will not work with this soundbar. ^Jeremy

A:AnswerHi there, the SWA-8500S rear speakers will hookup to the Q60T Soundbar. They do add a rear fill to make your soundbar 7.1 when added. If the programming has a rear signal then they will add a good fill to the room. ^Jeremy
