Many newer iMacs only have Type-C and TB ports. If you don’t need Thunderbolt-level data transfer speed, the design still permits you to use the drive without having to buy an (expensive) adaptor. This may not be what their designers (or marketeers) were thinking, but that’s why I bought this one—just for routine backup on my iMac.
