Q: QuestionI understand these are indoor speakers but could they work in a covered deck/porch?

• A:Answer Depends on where you are. In Florida for example, it gets very hot and humid even in a covered porch and these speakers are not rated for outdoor use. I have Mag8R's inside and polk RC80i's in my Florida Sunroom. RC80i's are great if you are going for a second zone speakers for music in the patio area.

Q: QuestionHow do these compare to b&w ccm683?

• A:Answer Mag8R both tweeter and woofer can be pivoted independently towards listening area. The Mag8R’s sounds very natural and I have them as a 5.1 ceiling setup and they are an incredible value if you get them on sale. Can’t go wrong with BW683 either and the tweeter pivots 30 degrees compared to 15 on Mag8Rs. Both sound excellent and I could not make out the differences and it kind of comes to room setup and crossover adjustment.

• A:Answer Yes, a Sonos amp can power four of these speakers and control them either as 2 separate zones or as one. You can even connect a third pair to one sonos amp,nevertheless, Sonos recommends to do this only with three pairs of Sonos Architectural speakers which have the same impedance as the amp, different impedance could damage the amp.

Q: QuestionI'm trying to build a 7.1.2 using sonance premium mag speakers and 4 of these Sonance - MAG8R - Mag Series 8" 2-Way In-Ceiling Speakers. Is it ok if i use these speakers for left and right side surround and back surround speakers in the wall ?

Q: QuestionAre these speakers IC rated? I.E. can insulation be placed close to/over them or does it need to remain a certain distance away?

• A:Answer In ceiling speakers do not have an IC or Non IC rating the way recessed cans so. You can safely place insulation directly on top of the speakers. Use caution if the material is blown insulation as it will fill the basket. For blown insulation use an in ceiling speaker boxer fabricate a box out of foam board. Fiberglass batts pose no issue and can rest directly on top of the speaker. If the speakers are in a ceiling prone to mice then I would also recommend in ceiling speaker boxes to protect the speakers.
