I replaced my 5.1 surround sound system with the Playbar and Sonos subwoofer and the sound is as good if not better. Still sounds like we have rear speakers at times and the Sonos sub puts our great bass for watching TV/movies or music. If you want a better speaker system then by a passive speaker for center channel. If you want to ditch all the surround sound speakers then buy the playbar and subwoofer

This essentially turns your existing speakers into a Sonos compatible speaker. You would then wire your sound bar to the tv via the optical cable and run the amp on the WiFi connection. This would allow the playbar to speak with the other speakers and playback seamlessly.

I cannot say that it will let you still use non Sonos speakers in conjunction with the play bar with out another sonos gadget to connect non sonos speakers. If memory serves it’s a sonos bridge. Play bar by itself is pretty awesome and more powerful than any other tv speaker I have ever seen. I use in conjunction with left/right play1’s and a sonos sub woofer. Couplevwith an Apple TV for tunes.
