• A:Answer On a full frame camera the 200mm range is a bit long for a small arena. You may be better off with the 100 to 400mm unless you are sitting in the nose bleed seats, then yes it will work. But on an APSC camera it will start at 300mm with the crop factor of 1.5 and then really may not work well. Also it starts at F5.6 so the ISO will have to be higher in low light indoor events and may cause a grainy pic.

• A:Answer Wider F-stop (4.5) means bigger lens opening, which means can shoot in lower light level. Also means glass lenses are bigger so costs more than the 600 mm lens. I use 600 for outside sports as well as bird pics that are well lit, and needed longer range than the 400 offered.

You can count on possible slow or nonfunctional features like auto-focus or camera driven aperture. This is a very modern and high tech lens. I would hold off until you move to mirrorless.
