I did not purchase a sound bar and the sound meets our expectations. No problems.

I utilized the TV's audio for a few days just for the experience. I was very pleased with the sound reproduction, but after hooking up my Bose sound bar.....WOW!! For me, it was like I was sitting in a movie theater! This is by far the BEST picture and sound quality I have ever experienced! I would highly recommend the Sony XBR65A8F, it is well worth the price tag. Keep up the good work Sony!

However, crank the volume up beyond 50 and it sounds really good. With that said, I wanted to get the most out of the 4K contents and splurged on the Sonos Arc (waiting on it to arrive to compare).
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I think the sound on the A8F is fine, but I already had a Bose SoundTouch 300 Soundbar, and I'm using that. The better mid-range provided by the sound bar could certainly make a clarity difference. I've never been happy with the audio produced by ANY television and have been connecting external audio for 30+ years. That said, the sound produced by the A8F is not bad. :)

I have the TV with me for a couple of days, and still trying to figure out if this is the normal sound (below average), or my unit is defective. I am making the comparison against my older (2008) Sony Bravia (LCD 1080p) which still wows me with picture and sound quality after a decade. I will probably visit Bestbuy, and listen to their display models before making the decision to return/exchange or call a technician for help.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Ive done both, used it for a couple weeks without a soundbar, then added my Bose soundtouch 300 to it. Soundbar adds a lot of projection and clarity, but the acoustic surface was still very good, just a soundbar is better. You do have a setting in the options for the acoustic surface to change to Dialog, which improves its clarity/projection, without a soundbar.
