• Cannot tell you about external mics, but the internal mics work much better than I had expected.

• Hi Hap1, we only assure the functionality of the recorder's voice activation feature when a voice comes in with its built-in mic. We cannot guarantee that the said feature will work with an external microphone. Thanks, -Mark
