“Is there anything that would keep the cover shut and keep it from opening in case you drop your iPad?”

Yes there is a magnetic clasp that holds the front cover closed. However be advised that it's not a very strong magnet so in the event of a drop the front cover could jar loose from the magnet exposing the face of the iPad. Hope this info is helpful to you.

It has a magnetic fold over closure. It does not clip or cinch in any other way, but I believe it would stay closed if dropped.
