• If bought through a retail store, it is not free. You have to sign up for a subscription for TiVo.

• You do not get the first year free, plus you can not save money by buying the annual subscription, it is only offered with the monthly one.

• That's only with the Bolt, in general. A couple of weeks ago, TiVo did have an offer for this model that included programming (I think the unit was a refurb.) Those units are limited availability, so I would guess they are gone now, but if you aren't in a hurry look for deal like that.
