• The volume on the remote only controls the volume from the speakers in the TV.

• Yes, it can. In the audio menu, select Variable if you want to controll the volume with the TV’s volume controls, or select Fixed if an external audio device (sound bar or AV receiver) will control the volume.Thanks!-Jesse
