I'm thinking most likely not because an external drive is usually only used for saving documents, photos, videos, etc. Internal drives are designed with active folders that actively connect directly with the internal computer system (BIOS, motherboard, etc.). The best thing would be to get a new internal drive. However, be sure to save all documents, photos, videos, etc. to any external drives or USB thumb drives. Also I've tried doing the same thing and it didn't work.
