QuestionCan you transfer new files weekly to this external hard driveSpecifically, I'm wondering if you can back up all your files regularly, and if the old ones are automatically overwritten, or if I'd end up with multiple duplicate copies of everything? Thank you!

- Answer No, it will not duplicate if the file is in the same name. It will give you an option if you want to overwritten the file or keep both of the file.

- Answer This question is written without sufficient information, but you can check the following. Check your Bios / Setup Configuration to see if you have the USB capability, and if so is it turned ON/OFF. Also, you need to state your OS. Does your Operation System have the ability to auto-detect a USB device when it is inserted? Is this feature turned ON/OFF? Poorly written question / post. No one can answer this as it is written, and person needs to check the Bios Setup, and OS Capabilities.

QuestionPrimary hard driveI have a laptop and the internal hard drive is failing. Can I buy external hard drive and install Windows 8.1 to it and tell mylaptop to boot from that drive?

- Answer I'm thinking most likely not because an external drive is usually only used for saving documents, photos, videos, etc. Internal drives are designed with active folders that actively connect directly with the internal computer system (BIOS, motherboard, etc.). The best thing would be to get a new internal drive. However, be sure to save all documents, photos, videos, etc. to any external drives or USB thumb drives. Also I've tried doing the same thing and it didn't work.

- Answer Depending on how much memory is needed, a simple thumb drive could work. Otherwise a 2+ TB drive would be a great investment. There are other external drives with more memory and are portable but they need to be plugged in. The one I have does not need to be plugged in. So it's great to use somewhere else if there's no access to an outlet.

- Answer Hey, thought since Best Buy isn't answering your question I would try. If you're on windows, open control panel (can type "con" in the search box/cortana, then enter) click on system and security, then power options, then change plan settings, then change advanced power settings. Click hard disk - Turn off hard disk after, then click down arrow till it says never. Then The +Sleep - Sleep after, click never, same for hibernate. USB settings - USB selective suspend, set to disabled. Should work.

QuestionType and/or speed?Is this a traditional hdd, or an ssd? If traditional, at what speed does it spin (5400 or 7200 rpm)? If ssd, I assume it has a SATA III interface?

- Answer It doesn't 'spin'. It has no power supply, is a USB only connection and stores your data like a giant 'thumb drive'.
